It's the last week for this year's Pixel People. On Tuesday Malcolm was on the Majic 100 Morning Show talking with Stuntman Stu about his efforts to raise money for Toy Mountain.
UPDATE: Have passed $1030 raised and still have until Friday!
Toy Mountain is over and we're happy to have had your support to raise $1833 for toys.
But we've still got almost 120 Pixel People in stock and while they look great hanging on our tree we'd rather they did some more good.
So, for the next 3 days we've reduced everything by 50% and we'll be donating proceeds from sales directly to the Parkdale Food Centre foodbank in Hintonburg. Just use the promo code FOODBANK at checkout.
After a month of hard work and tonnes of support from the community the 2013 Pixel People campaign ended today.
We made a second trip to My Toy Shop in Manotick despite the snowy, slippery roads to buy the final $581 in toys, bringing the total raised to $1833. With My Toy Shop's generous discount Pixel People was able to purchase almost $3000 worth of toys (at retail value) this year which we hope will brighten some faces on Christmas morning.
A huge thanks to everyone who supported Pixel People this year and have safe and happy holidays!
This morning Malcolm was on CTV Ottawa Morning Live to deliver a pile of Toy Mountain gifts ($1252 worth to be exact!) and talk all things Pixel People with Lianne Laing & Ian Mendes.
After doing a live TV segment, we popped upstairs to Magic 100 to give Stu, Angie, and Trisha an update. This is Malcolm's 4th time in the studio and he's getting to be a natural!
After Malcolm's appearance on CTV Ottawa with Stuntman Stu for the Toy Mountain launch we had a huge outpouring of support for Pixel People. The support has not let up and we've completely blown last year's total of $720 out of the water.
As of Dec 8th we've got the following Pixel People progress:
On Saturday June 7 we visited My Toy Shop in Manotick again to pick toys for Toy Mountain. My Toy Shop is a family-owned store and once again husband and wife owners Etienne and Claire were happy to help us out with a generous discount and several hundred dollars in extra donated merchandise. About an hour of careful selection later we rang up the bill: $1951 discounted to $1252.15 to meet our funds raised to date. Thank you!
Of course we've still got $248 left to hit our target and another 10 days left before the December 20th cut off for Toy Mountain. We'll be working hard until then!
For years the machines watched us. Quietly learning our habits, our patterns, our weaknesses. Then on a Monday after American Thanksgiving the machines—especially the Android phones—turned against us.
And for a while it was pretty grim. No more Internet. No more texting while waiting for the bus. No more OMGSOCUTE selfies. No more efficient self-checkout machines…oh wait, those always hated us. Everyone suffered.
Luckily, not all the machines were bad. A few remained loyal to their original programming and with their help, we fought back. After several hours on a call to tech support, we rebooted the machines and won.
So today, we remember those good machines, the Pixelbots, and all that they’ve done for us the best way we know how: free stuff.
Cyber Monday only, receive a Free Pixel Bot with every Trio 3-Pack. Note: eye colour varies depending on how the Pixelbots are programmed.
This year Pixel People is running on Shopify's ecommerce platform to make it easier to manage orders and payments. I'm happy to say that we had our first Pixel People sale within hours of going live yesterday! The start of the journey to Toy Mountain.
